The Campus
This temple of higher education is situated in a sprawling land surrounded by an idyllic and a verdant ambience in the lap of a fur flung picturesque landscape unperturbed by industrial noise and nuisance. The generations of students it delivered to the society are continually boosting up the prestige and power of this temple of education.
College Building
Kaliyaganj College has three double-storied spectacular wings. The East Wing consists Principal’s Chamber, Staff Room, NAAC - Conference Room, Room for Bursar, Office Room, Girls’ Common Room, Botany, Zoology and Geography Laboratories and eight class rooms of different sizes and separate lavatories for each section.
The West Wing has a spacious library with reading room, one Laboratory for Mathematics and Computer Science, one Computer Training Center, one Museum, one allotted room for Career Oriented Programme and nine class rooms including one big auditorium like room specially built for holding seminars, symposia and conferences and also few lavatories in each floor.
In continuation of the endeavour to make the premises naturally rich, these two wings are constructed with a fascinating lawn flanked by four small flower gardens. In between them two magnificent entrances are there.
The third annex building is Science Building, which is adjacent to the East Wing of the Institution. It consists of Physics and Chemistry Laboratories and two big size class rooms in each floor for organizing theoretical classes.
Facilities
The institution offers hostel accommodation which is well equipped with telephone, fire extinguisher and other necessary facilities. Amenities like Free studentship, Aid - Fund etc particularly for the students coming from low-income groups and backward communities are easily available in the college.
Students get enriched by participating themselves in seminar, symposia, exhibitions etc. held in the institution at times and by contributing articles in the college-magazines and wall-magazines.
There is a vast playground to the north side of the college premises adjacent to a beautiful pond with crystal clear water which is submerged with the ecological characteristics of the college.
The road and railway communication to the college is splendid. The local schools and the District Head Quarter, Raiganj are well connected and conveyances are also easily available.
The college is affiliated to Gour Banga University which is not far-away from the college. It takes around two hours by bus to reach the University from college. All modern communicating facilities, like Fax, email, Internet are available in the college.
All the major offices/institutions such as Municipality Office, Banks, Post Office, Hospital, Anchal Panchayat Office, Block Development Office and all schools of this area are in close vicinity of the college.
Library
Kaliyaganj College Library provides open access facilities to its students, teachers and other staff. The library has 20,215 books of various disciplines having 2,000 different titles. On regular basis the library is the subscriber of 21 journals. The library provides photo-copying facilities. The library remains opened from 11 am to 5 pm on every working days (except Saturday). For Saturday it remains opened up to 2 pm.
Laboratories
The laboratories of Physics, Chemistry, Geography, Computer Science, Mathematics, Botany and Zoology are quite spacious and well equipped with up to date apparatus.
Computer Center
The college has a Central Computer Centre with Internet and LAN facilities where all the employees of the college have free access.
Besides that the computer science department has its own laboratory. Teaching staff room has four computers with internet facilities where teachers carry on their research work for the academic upgradation of the whole institution.
Students’ Hostel
Boys’ Hostel
The Boys’ hostel situated to the north end corner of the college. It can accommodate 20 male students only. A hostel superintendent takes care of the boarders in the hostel.
Women’s Hostel
The college has received an approval of Rs 99,12,593/= under the UGC special scheme for Womens’ Hostel. An amount of Rs. 49,56,297/= of this scheme has already been received and utilized by the college and the construction work is in process.
Union
There is one Students’ Union in the college for fostering and developing all the co-curricular activities among the students. All regular students are members of this students’ union. The Union takes part assiduously in various functions such as Annual Sports, Annual Cultural Functions, Independence Day and Republic Day celebration etc. The Union publishes one college magazine namely “Annikhsha” under the supervision of the Teacher-in-Charge of ‘Magazine Committee’.
Alumni Association
From the very beginning, Kaliyaganj College has been enriched by its donors and well-wishers. Acknowledging with this spirit an Alumni Association also exists here. Ex students have the opportunity to meet each other and they can also consult with the authority of the college through this Association. They are expected to act as an advisory committee for the over all development of the college.
Eco Club
The College has organized a club for the purpose of increasing ecological and environmental resources in and around the locality. Students are invited to get membership of this club by contributing a minimum subscription for their valuable participation in this innovative activity.
Blood Donation camps and different programmes for awareness of ecological and environmental problems are regularly organized. The Eco Club inspires the students to make a lush green campus of the college. Besides making flower gardens, the eco club goes on a planting sapling over the years. Seminar
Departmental seminars and talks are organized on regular basis to upgrade the academic atmosphere of the institute and to enlighten the students there in. All the departments try to bring UGC funds for organizing National / Regional/ State Level seminars.
In the last two academic years five departments namely, Departments of Economics, Commerce, Bengali, Political Science & Philosophy have received UGC grants for organizing National & State Level Seminar. The Department of Economics organized the Seminar on 18th & 19th November, 2011, Department of Philosophy organized the Seminar on 2nd & 3rd December, 2011, Department of Political Science organized the Seminar on 16th & 17th March, 2012, Department of Commerce organized the Seminar on 22nd & 23rd March, 2012, Department of Bengali organized the Seminar on 29th & 30th March, 2012.
Department of Economics, Philosophy & Bengali have already published Edited volumes of these Seminar Lectures. Edited volumes of the Department of Commerce and Political Science are forthcoming.
Vocational Course
Vocational courses under West Bengal State Council of Vocational Education & Training have been started in this college from the session 2006-07. Two streams - (i) Home Science, (ii) Agriculture are available in our college at X+2 level. Proper care is being taken to run these courses so that the students can make themselves self-employed, under the guidance of one teacher coordinator and Principal of the college.
